This event combines our 2-day Field Marksmanship Clinic with two days of pronghorn antelope hunting in Northern New Mexico. This hunt occurs during the rut which brings out the biggest bucks. You will stay at the famed NRA Whittington Center.
Your "Experience" will start with our Long Range University 2-day Field Marksmanship Clinic. Of all the various training classes we provide we feel that this one best prepares you to be successful on this hunt regardless of your level of shooting experience. You will train with our Magnus Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor working specifically on tripod positions and trouble shooting your shooting technique. The rifle rental and ammunition fee is included in your registration. On the second afternoon you will switch to your rifle. You will confirm zero and validate your trajectory out to your maximum comfortable range. We will assist you in loading the data into your laser rangefinder if necessary and ensure everything is tracking correctly by shooting targets at different distances from your preferred shooting position/support.
For the hunt, you will be partnered with one other hunter and a professional guide and hunt on ranches that are approximately an hour's drive from the Whittington Center. Gunwerks LRU instructors will assist with coaching on the hunts however we cannot guarantee we will have someone with every group of hunters. The hunting outfitter will provide meals and also offers meat processing and taxidermy services for an additional fee. You will also have to option to donate your meat to charity.
We encourage you to bring your own rifle for the hunting portion of this event however if you do not have a rifle available, reach out to our sales team and we can arrange for a limited number of hunters to utilize the rifle you used in the Field Marksmanship Clinic for your hunt.
LRU Overview
Long Range University exists for the specific purpose of helping you make quick ethical one shot kills in the field. The core of our content is contained in our L1, L2, and L3 classes which utilize a building block approach to provide education and training in every factor which impacts your lethal hit probability. Interwoven throughout all three classes is a training strategy which will improve your ability to function under pressure and significantly extend the range and conditions under which you can take an ethical shot. At Long Range University you will learn to recognize when the conditions are not suitable to ensure a lethal hit.
You will use our Gunwerks Shooting systems during the L1 and L2 classes, however what you learn will apply to any long range shooting system. Using a Gunwerks rifle system and ammunition for this course facilitates and accelerates the learning process. This allows you to focus on the core class content and leave equipment concerns to the instructor. Put wear and tear on our rifle not yours.
In our L3 class we encourage you to bring your personal rifle regardless of manufacturer. This is where you really learn the capability and limits of your “system” which includes you and your marksmanship ability, your rifles capability, your ballistic program, and your ability to compensate for wind and other environmental conditions, all in a realistic mountain hunting environment.
